Kashmiri Journalists hold candle light vigil for Shujaat Bukhari
Srinagar: A group of Journalists in Kashmir Monday evening held a candlelight vigil outside Srinagar Press Club in remembrance of late senior Journalist Shujaat Bukhari who was shot dead on June 15, 2018, in press colony, Srinagar.
The journalists assembled outside the Press Club in Polo View market and set alight candles. The commemoration was organized by Kashmir Journalists Association with collaboration with Kashmir Young Journalists Association and TV Journalists Association. A few journalists who are based in Rural Kashmir also participated in the vigil.
The participants held candles in their hands and observed silence for a few minutes. Later a senior scribe addressed the protestors and said that the murder of Bukhari cannot intimidate them. “We will continue to follow the path set by Shujaat sahab and work with honesty and integrity without any bias.” His address was followed by a speech from Majid Hydari, another Srinagar based senior journalist. He urged the government to take the case of Shujaat’s murder to a logical conclusion and justice be done. “We will not allow police to make guesses and want the government to find the real culprits responsible for Shujaat Sahab’s murder.” He followed his speech with prayers for the departed.
