Stone pelting clashes follow grenade attack in Shopian
Srinagar: Clashes erupted between government forces and civilians in southern Kashmir’s Shopian soon after a grenade was lobbed in the main Chowk Monday afternoon on a police party.
Local sources said that soon after the incident, dozens of youth assembled and pelted rocks on forces personnel near the local Jamia Masjid. The said that police retaliated using tear smoke shells.
Latest reports pouring in from the southern Kashmir district said that the clashes have spread to Batpora Chowk of the town.
Earlier around a dozen persons including two cops were injured in the grenade attack. A minor girl injured in the attack is stated to be critical and has been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
